Michoacan takes 29% of the awards in the National Competition -Second «The 2015 Mexican Art that Lasts»

Mexico, Federal District, on August 30, 2015.- The federal Social Development Secretariat (SEDESOL), in coordination with the National Fund for the Development of Arts and Crafts (Fonart) and the National Institute of Older Persons (INAPAM) They held the second national competition «Mexican art that endures 2015,» where President Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife Angelica Rivera de Pena, presented the awards to the eight winners Michoacan architects in this contest.

During the awards ceremony held at the National Museum of Anthropology and History, the president said some of the actions that the Government of the Republic carried out to protect the elderly and expressed appreciation artisans of Mexico, » who work with great emotion, with delivery of heart and with great imagination and creativity to make beautiful works that project the cultural wealth of our country. »

Juan Severino Rivera, artisan native Oaxaca, winner of the National Award, went to the authorities present, «I am happy to see that today many wear dresses and clothes that identify our land and our origin; because I think it is fine that Mexicans always remember our origins «.

In this national competition Michoacan won eight of the 28 prizes awarded in five of the nine categories, participating with 26 pieces, which managed to get 29 percent of the total awards.

Among the winners Michoacan, the first place in the category of pottery was for Elisa Orozco Valencia in the town of San Jose de Gracia, with a glazed clay chandelier pineapple pico coffee grounds; textile category the first place went, Lucia Alonso Vargas community of San Felipe de los Herreros, with frayed thin cotton shawl with different relindos.

In the field of metalworking and jewelry, the first place went to Roberto Treviño Saucedo, with a three-legged pot with a handle made of natural copper and secondly, Leodegarius Ziranda Tinoco, with a bowl of hammered copper with serrated edge natural color; both craftsmen of the town of Santa Clara del Cobre.

In the category of feather art, the first place went to Irene Reyes Reyes, with a picture of thrush canary feathers and pigeon, parrot, quail and Cardinal; second, Martha Leticia López Luna, with a picture of mythical birds and the third place went to Consuelo Sandoval Carranza, with an original source of the Tarascan box, being the original winners of Morelia.

Eva Yolanda Josefina Ayala Sereno, Morelia, won third place in the category of toys with a death mask with feather art of bunting wooden stand with chicken feathers, lark, duck and cardinal.

In this event were also present, Jose Antonio Meade, Minister of Social Development; Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, Minister of Tourism; the head of the National Institute of Older Persons, Aracely Escalante Jasso; the general director of the National Fund for the Development of Arts and Crafts, Liliana Romero Medina; Institute director Artisan Michoacan, Rafael Paz Vega and the craftsmen winners.

Different guest speakers made the present an award and 25 awards to the winners and, for a total prize of 436 thousand pesos, distributed at participating categories: pottery, textiles, vegetable fibers and semi hard, metalwork and jewelry, lacquer and lacquer, folk painting, paper, and paper and board, wood carving, and toys.

Zacatecas, Jalisco, Michoacan, State of Mexico, Tabasco, Hidalgo, Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Veracruz, Mexico City, Morelos and Tlaxcala, were the states that participated in this contest and the works of the participating artisans They were exposed to the attendees.
