Award Ceremony of the Second National Contest of 2015 Rebozo

Michoacan again be recognized by its great craft talent.

The event took place in the central courtyard of the Palace of Government of Tlaxcala, which was attended by the Lic. Jose Antonio Meade, Minister of Social Development, the Governor of Tlaxcala, Mariano González Zarur, Master Liliana Romero Medina, Director General the National Fund for the Development of Arts and Crafts (FONART), Lic. Rodolfo Escobar Jardinez, Mayor of Tlaxcala, Mr. Jose Luis Sanchez Mastranzo, Director General of the Fund of the House of Crafts in Tlaxcala, CP Jorge Valdez Aguilera, Secretary of Planning and Finance, Ms. Meade Juana Cuevas Specialist Folk Art, Lic. Adriana Moreno Duran, Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development of Tlaxcala, the C. Maria Luisa Mendoza Vazquez National Crafts Award Winner and C. Jose Rodrigo Ramos Mancio Craftsman.

In this event, 39 awards to the winners artisans delivered within the 12 participating categories such as cotton shawl woven from cintira, cotton shawl woven in colonial loom, wool shawl woven belt, woven wool shawl in colonial loom, silk shawl, shawl articela, rescue shawl, natural dye, innovation shawl, voile shawl techniques, embroidered shawl and rapacejo.

The prizes for each category corresponded to: First $ 15,000.00, second $ 12,000.00 and third place $ 8,000.00, and the National Award in the amount of $ 50,000.00, two special prizes for the best piece with applications from natural dyes and best piece of Rescue design and traditional technique.

In this contest a total of 310 pieces was recorded with an equal number of participants artisans from 14 States as Tlaxcala, Chiapas, Mexico State, San Luis Potosi, Michoacan, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Jalisco, Veracruz, Puebla and Hidalgo where the amount of $ 510,000.00 pesos in prizes will be distributed.

In his message, the head of the Ministry of Social Development, Jose Antonio Meade, acknowledged the great work that the Government of Tlaxcala has done and said today tlaxcaltecas have more opportunities for education, access to health care, social security, housing and improvements to the urban environment, for his part, Governor of Tlaxcala, Mariano González Zarur, said that his government’s development strategy is comprehensive, so in the crafts area, attention is given to the creators of the entity , in order to preserve, rescue and while recognizing their contribution to the cultural wealth Tlaxcala, encouraging the work of craftsmen and women who dedicate their lives to preserve the knowledge and transform raw materials into beautiful pieces.

In turn, the Director of FONART, Prof. Liliana Romero Medina, thanked the government of Tlaxcala for its support to local and country for the development of this event artisans. Also, I point out that economic resources contributed to this event are performed jointly by the government of Tlaxcala and FONART SEDESOL through the benefit of the artisans themselves.

In the same category director Mastranzo Jose Luis Sanchez, Director General of the Fund for the House of Crafts in Tlaxcala, artisans thanked for their participation in this contest and noted that the efforts carried out by the government in favor of artisans aims to promote the recovery of techniques that are part of the cultural heritage of our country as in developing the shawl different techniques are reflected, since this piece is a fundamental part of the costume of Mexican women, also pointed out that the realization of these events contribute to the economy of artisans, allowing purchase their clothes and receive the prize that is a stimulus to continue preserving this noble work.

This time the National Award winning artisan Maria Luisa Mendoza native of Chiapas Vazquez thanked the authorities conducting these events as the motivation to keep working and said it was an honor to have woven into their own hands and clothing and offer it to others as well as to preserve the traditions she learned from her mother and grandmothers.

This time, seven artisans of our state creditors became an award in the following categories:

Embroidered shawl.

1st Place, Ma. Del Socorro Castillo Ornelas Tócuaro community, Municipality of Erongarícuaro. Piece: Rebozo embroidered cotton cross stitch.

Rebozo technique with gauze.

1st Place. Esperanza Valencia Gutierrez, Morelia. Piece: Rebozo cotton fabric loom (Patakua), pearl color.

2º.Lugar. Ma. Del Carmen Gutierrez Macias, Morelia. Piece: Rebozo cotton fabric loom (Patakua), coral color.

3rd Place. Equihua Laura Ortega, community Aranza, Paracho municipality. Piece: Rebozo cotton fabric loom (Patakua), turquoise.

2º.Lugar. Rita Soto Socorro, Angahuan community, municipality of Uruapan. Part: cotton Rebozo red with white.

2nd Place. Ma. Lourdes Casimiro Victoria, Cuanajo community, municipality of Patzcuaro. Piece: Rebozo wool, woven belt with traditional motifs.

3rd Place. Imelda Ramos Hernandez, Ahuirán community, municipality of Paracho. Piece: Rebozo rapacejo marbled tip.
Significantly, the state government of Michoacan through the Institute of Artisan Michoacano contributes to the dissemination of the call for such events in each and every one of the communities of the artisanal sector.

It is also important to mention that within the supports are awarded for artisans to participate is receiving, shipping and logistics to bring the craft pieces to the event, as well as the travel and accommodation of the winners artisans.

Michoacán known for its participation in national competitions, which is reflected in the number of awards that have been taken to the artisans of our state in each and every one of the events where we always prize winners in general.
