Michoacan wins six awards in the -Third National Young Artists Competition of Folk Art 2015

Michoacan six architects stand in pottery, woodcarving and metalwork and jewelry.

129 thousand pesos is the total amount in prizes for Michoacan.

Guadalajara, Jalisco, August 06, 2015.- The Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL) through the National Fund for the Development of Arts and Crafts (Fonart) in collaboration with the Mexican Institute of Youth (IMJUVE) and the Government of the State of Jalisco, through the Institute of Jalisco Handicrafts (IAJ), conducted the third National Young Artists Competition of Folk Art 2015, where six artisans Michoacan won awards in three categories of the 11 participants on the one outlay of 129 thousand pesos in prizes.

The awards presentation was in the Government Palace in the city of Guadalajara, where the Secretary of Development, Jose Palacio Jiménez, who stressed the importance of the contest where the participation of young entrepreneurs between 18 and 29 years were present recognized from different states, and especially welcomed Jacqueline Luciano Perera of Tabasco, who received the national award.

David Eugene German Jasso, Chief Operating Fonart admitted to and artisans for their participation in this competition, because with the realization of this, he said, seeks to recognize and encourage young people to produce handcrafted pieces that strengthen its cultural essence and recover their traditions and designs using traditional materials and techniques, in order to encourage the continuation of this activity among the new generations.

In the category of woodcarving, the first place went to Carlos Eduardo Leon Tzintzun, of the town of Cuanajo, with a carved chest in pine wood, the second place went to Juan Carlos Martinez Perez, Ahuiran, with a residential door carved pine.

Rafael Ortiz Rosa Blanca, artisan Ocumicho, won third place in the category of pottery with a devil with cage, in the category of metalwork and jewelry, the winners of the first and second place are Santa Clara del Cobre, Punzo Marcos Chavez, petatillo with Chavez and Alan Punzo center with a crooked vase Alberto Espinoza and Miguel Zepeda, of Purépero wedges, he won honorable mention for San Miguel and the Devil in wax.

In award ceremony was attended by the head of the Institute of Handicrafts Jalisco, Camilo Ramirez Murguía, director of the Mexican Institute of Youth, Jose Manuel Romero Coello, Nicholas Master Landeros, Deputy Chairman of Handicrafts in the State Congress of Jalisco Ramon Morales Sanchez, director of the Institute for Youth of Jalisco and Rafael Paz Vega, director of the Institute of Artisan Michoacan.

Pottery, textiles, vegetable fibers, Metalwork and Jewellery, Maque and lacquer miniature, wood carving, Toys, Musical Instruments, Paper and Cardboard: This time 63 winners artisans within the 11 participating categories, which were were awarded and various materials.

In this competition, a total of 412 pieces were recorded, with an equal number of participants from 16 states, such as Jalisco, Michoacan, State of Mexico, Tabasco, Hidalgo, Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Veracruz, Morelos, Quintana Roo and Tlaxcala and the Federal District.

It is noteworthy that the winning pieces will be on display for a month at the Museum of Ceramics of Tlaquepaque, independence street no. 237.
